JULY 5
WHAT TO THE NEGRO IS THE FOURTH OF JULY?

Join us as we celebrate the spirit of resistance and raise funds for the Shrine of the Black Madonna and the Detroit Black Farmer Land Fund!

One hundred and seventy years ago, in Rochester, N.Y., fiery orator and abolitionist, Frederick Douglass, delivered his most memorable speech which answered for America “What to the Negro is the Fourth of July?”

In reverence to the revolutionary spirit of Frederick Douglass and our collective ancestors, join us on July 4, 2022, for musical selections from the African Jazz Ensemble In the Tradition, interwoven with excerpts from Frederick Douglass' famous speech. We gather in the spirit of resistance and the revolutionary spirit as we raise funds for the Shrine of the Black Madonna and the Detroit Black Farmer Land Fund.

Come become a part of a new July 4th tradition! #NotMyIndependenceDay
